New Dark Mode Facebook Desktop Site is Now Available Everywhere

The company announced on Friday that the new Facebook desktop site is now available worldwide. Prior to this change, the new version of Facebook was only available if it started in March and only selected a few markets, although the company said that most people would have accessed this month.

In a blog post released today, Facebook says the new site “will now become a worldwide web experience for Facebook,” adding that “it is fast, easy to use and eye-breaking with dark mode.”

The dark mode is really the highlight of the new version, but the update provides a more dramatic overhaul. The home design features a new Skinner news feed, enough space on the left and right rails, and larger icons and a menu bar that allows you to easily access different parts of the application.

For those who want to launch a new design and enable dark mode without delay here:

  1. Click the down arrow at the bottom of the top menu bar to drag the old Facebook settings menu.
  2. Click on “Switch to new Facebook”.
  3. Click the same down arrow and turn dark mode on or off.

When Facebook unveiled the redesign of the first desktop at its F8 Developer Conference in 2019, the goal was to get most people to still use the areas: events, groups, and messages around them. Filling algorithmic feeds with pages and garbage from public posts is now a good idea.

People are becoming increasingly behind in groups and personal messages and right now Facebook’s only key use is to host a big event with friends or communicate with acquaintances.

As CEO Mark Zuckerberg said, when the redesign was released a few months before launch, he announced the switch from his entire company to privacy-focused products and features. And unless you’re a former Facebook demographic or not particularly interested in the unique brand of hyper-partisan political content sites, most people will spend most of their time on Instagram, TickTock, Twitch, YouTube, and other platforms.

The new Facebook news feed reflects the company’s priorities with a focus on videos (because video ads still make a lot of money for the company) and a newly designed message board, as well as easy access to events and groups. It can be a dizzying visual change, but it’s more fun to use Facebook if you know your own interface.
